Creamed Collard Greens
This collard green recipe is a no-brainer for a Southern Thanksgiving spread! Add Creamed Collards to your Thanksgiving menu.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. pepper
- 1 bunch collard greens, stemmed and chopped
- 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
Directions
Melt butter in a skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion and saute until soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic, cook until fragrant, then add flour and cook until bubbly.
Slowly add heavy cream to the skillet, whisking until combined. Add milk, salt, and pepper. Cook until the mixture begins to boil and thicken. Stir in collards, reduce heat, and simmer until collards are tender. Add a little broth or water to the collards if needed. Stir in Parmesan cheese and serve warm.
