Give your #GeorgiaGrown pecans a long and happy shelf life with simple proper storage. Here’s how to store and freeze pecans to help you get the most out of the south’s most popular nut!
How To Store Shelled Peans
For immediate use, store pecans in air-tight canisters or Ziploc bags.
Keep pecans separated from other products that may have a strong smell, such as fruit – pecans will pick up those close odors, and you will lose the sweet, nutty flavor of the pecan due to the absorbed flavors.
Pro Tip: Refrigerating pecans can extend their freshness up to 6 months. When doing this be sure to store in plastic bags away from other produce. (double bag if possible)
How To Freeze Shelled Pecans
When freezing, always freeze smaller batches of shelled pecans.
Double bag them for freshness. No thawing or defrosting is required.
